Moina Shaiq will speak on:
Meet a Muslim
Like many Americans, Moina was profoundly affected by the events of September 11th, 2001, but as an Arab-American, she was concerned that her Muslim faith could make her a target of hostility. So she dove head first into volunteerism in her hometown. But after the 2015 mass shooting in San Bernardino, she began to feel that community service wasn’t enough. She decided to take action, and placed an ad in the local paper inviting people she didn’t know to join her at a neighborhood café and “Meet a Muslim” in person. One hundred people showed up at that first meeting – and her gatherings have been growing ever since.
Moina Shaiq has been living in the United States for 43 years. She is a mother of four children and a grandmother of six. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Economics. She is also a community activist, devoting herself to building bridges of understanding.
